Daviess County Women's Giving Circle

The Daviess County Courthouse was filled with the voices of fifty women on the evening of Tuesday, August 10, 2010, as they mingled before the start of the charter meeting for the Daviess County Community Foundation's new project, Women in Philanthropy. Women from all over the county and from various professional backgrounds came together that evening to put into motion a Women's Giving Circle, which will address issues affecting women of Daviess County, and they enjoyed a little dessert before dinner while they were at it.

The group is organized to be affordable and have a minimal time commitment. Money is raised solely through membership fees, which is $2 a week or a $100 pledge per woman per year. The money is then divided two ways: one half is added to an endowment fund for the future, and the other half will be granted each year to programs that benefit the women of Daviess County, as decided by the members. Finally, there are only two meetings a year. "This is an uncomplicated version of what many other counties are doing. It is designed so that every woman who wishes to be a part of the group can be," explains Jeanne Fields, Director of the Community Foundation.

Those interested in learning more or becoming an active member of the group should contact the Daviess County Community Foundation at 254-9354.
