This Year's Community Scholars

Many of our donors have honored their loved ones, communities, high schools, colleges, or professions by endowing scholarship opportunities through the Foundation's Community Scholarship Program. Below are the students selected as Community Scholars for 2011. Our congratulations to all of these fine students!

 Craig Harner, president of the Daviess County Community Foundation Board of Trustees, congratulates the 2011 winners of the Dwight Risley Scholarships, the David K. Lynch Scholarship, the Ray L. Angerer Memorial Scholarship, the Lawrell Ray Hilgeman Memorial Scholarship, the Marilyn L. Wallace Memorial Scholarship, the McKinley Vance Agri-Business Scholarship, the People’s Bank/GermanAmerican Bancorp Scholarship, the William and Mary Summers Memorial Scholarship and the Daviess County Community Foundation Scholarships.

Four students have been selected to receive the Dwight Risley Scholarship: Felicia Swartzentruber of Barr-Reeve High School, Susanna Watson of North Daviess High School, Emily Schnarr of Washington Catholic High School, and Tybytha Ryan of Washington High School. The Dwight Risley Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of Daviess County who are in good academic standing, plan to pursue post-secondary education, and need help with tuition, books, and fees.

 Audrey Lashbrook of Washington High School was selected to receive the David K. Lynch Scholarship, which is awarded to a Washington High School graduating senior who attended Lena Dunn Elementary School.

 Harold Hanson received the Ray L. Angerer Memorial Scholarship, established by the Westminster Presbyterian Church in memory of Mr. Angerer.

Dakota Bullock of Washington High School received the Lawrell Ray Hilgeman Memorial Scholarship, established by Veale Creek Players in memory of Mr. Hilgeman.

Hannah Stoll of North Daviess received the Marilyn L. Wallace Memorial Scholarship, established by the husband and children of Mrs. Wallace.

Karissa Sparks of North Daviess received the McKinley Vance Agri-Business Scholarship. The McKinley Vance Agri-Business Scholarship is renewable by application and can be awarded to the same student four years.

Brock Brothers of Washington High School received the Peoples Bank/German American Bancorp Scholarship, created by Peoples National Bank in Washington.

Alyson Rodgers of Washington High has been chosen to receive the William and Mary Summers Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a Washington High School graduating senior who plans to attend Vincennes University.

The Daviess County Community Foundation Scholarships are awarded to alternates of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. If a Lilly scholar should decline their award, the alternates would move up one spot and one of them would be awarded the LECS. The alternates this year are Nicholas Heshelman of North Daviess High School, Austin Jarrett of Washington Catholic High School and Evan Wadsworth of Washington.

Eligibility requirements and selection criteria are determined by our donors. Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds, educational goals, and economic status. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, or national origin and are based on a competitive process which may consider academic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal aspirations, educational goals, and financial need.
