Recent Grants

When our donors give unrestricted gifts, they allow the Foundation's trustees to determine how their gifts can best serve the community from year to year as needs and programs change. The earnings from these gifts are distributed through our Discretionary Grants Program. This program allowed us to award more than $85,000 during our most recent grant cycle:

Dave Osmon, President of the Daviess County Community Foundation’s board of trustees, announced today that the foundation awarded grants totaling more than $85,000 to 30 projects of nonprofit organizations in Daviess County listed below: 
  1. B.A.B.E.—Beds & Britches, Etc.--$5,000.00—partial funding for the purchase of durable infant necessities for the BABE store.
  2. Barr-Reeve School Library—Literacy Action Plan--$1,000.00—partial funding for the purchase of books and supplies for the Camp-Read-A-Lot program and the Mystery Night Program.
  3. Central Christian Church—Backpack Food for Kids program--$5,239.00—full funding for the purchase of backpacks and food for children enrolled in the program.
  4. Connections—Jubilee Christmas--$7,000.00—full funding for the purchase of family household baskets, food vouchers, gifts and supplies for the program.
  5. Daviess County Adult Literacy Council—Basic Computer Education--$1,160.00—partial funding to be used for materials and supplies and phone and internet services.
  6. Daviess County Historical Society—A digital Future--$450.00—funding to be used for the purchase of a digital document scanner.
  7. Daviess County Historical Society—A Match Made in Washington--$1,000.00—partial funding to be used for the Main Street Façade Grant for the restoration of the front of the DC Museum.
  8. Daviess County Historical Society—Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men--$4,400.00—full funding for the match offered by the SIDC to plan for upgrades of the Museum building.
  9. Friends for Kids of Daviess County—Life Skills--$2,000.00—partial funding for the Life Skills program.
  10. Generations—Enhance Fitness--$1,100.00—partial funding for the program to be used for the license fee and instructor training.
  11. Girl Scouts of Raintree Council—Discovering You Outreach Program--$1,000.00—partial funding for program supplies.
  12. Harvest Community Fellowship—Community Playground-- $3,000.00—Partial funding for the purchase of playground equipment.
  13. Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana—Our Region & Global Marketplace--$2,000.00—partial funding for the JA program in Daviess County schools.
  14. Four Rivers-Life After School/Community Disability Awareness--$3,990.00—partial funding for the community awareness projects.
  15. Lighthouse Recovery Center—Home Improvements--$4,580.00—partial funding for the repair and improvements to the facility.
  16. Mental Health America of Daviess County—Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World--$1,000.00—partial funding for project expenses.
  17. MAIN Team—United for a Drug Free Daviess County--$500.00—partial funding for the annual Anti Drug March supplies.
  18. North Daviess High School Student council—Excellence in Student Achievement Recognition--$4,100.00—funding for first year implementation cost.
  19. Odon Winklepleck Public Library—Fire & Security System--$1,500.00—partial funding for the Fire & Security System.
  20. Parkview Village Christian Community—Outdoor Improvement Project--$5,315.00—partial funding for the purchase of materials for the project.
  21. Plainville Housing—Water Project--$7,300.00—funding for the first phase of the water improvement project.
  22. Pregnancy Care Center—Essentials for Newborns--$5,000.00—partial funding for the purchase of nursery furniture and necessities.
  23. Purdue Extension—Strengthening Families Through Parent Education--$1,000.00—partial funding for the strengthening families program m.
  24. RSVP—Little Elves Workshop--$1,080.00—partial funding for the purchase of gifts and supplies for the program.
  25. RSVP—Children’s Vision Screening--$4,500.00—partial funding for the vision screening program.
  26. Senior & Family Services—TV, Wii, WiiFit, Video Camera--$1,126.00—funding for the purchase of electronic equipment for fitness center.
  27. Southwest Indiana Power House—Rock Climbing Wall--$5,000.00—partial funding for the building of the rock climbing wall.
  28. Town of Plainville—Restrooms for the Park--$2,000—partial funding for the building of new restrooms in Plainville Park.
  29. United Way of Daviess County—Day of Caring--$2,000.00—partial funding for the purchase of supplies and shirts for the Day of Caring.
  30. Daviess County YMCA—Youth Football Equipment Project--$1,500.00—partial funding for the purchase of equipment for the football team.
 Grants to these Daviess County nonprofit organizations have been made possible by the Jay Myers Unrestricted Fund, The Friends of Daviess County Fund, The Daviess County Memorial Fund, the Traylor Fertilizer Service, Inc./Joe & Gladys Traylor Fund, the Senator Homer and Irma Capehart Fund, the Old National Fund for Daviess County, The Midwest Natural Gas Corporation Unrestricted Fund, The Edward Jones & Co. Achievement Fund, The Black Beauty Daviess County Community Fund, the Perdue Farms, Inc. Unrestricted Fund, the Home Building Savings Bank FSB Unrestricted Fund and the Maysville Enterprises, LLC Fund—all of which are endowed funds created by donors in Daviess County.  These donors have found the Daviess County Community Foundation an ideal vehicle for their charitable giving in a way that serves the community today and forever.
