Honoring David K. Lynch

Photo Lynch FamilyFor David Lynch, August 1, 2000, started off like any other. He left home after exchanging a kiss and an I-love-you with his family, but the day took a tragic turn. An accident took David's life that day, leaving his wife, Cathy, and their sons, Keith and Kelly, with a tremendous emptiness in their lives. "We are thankful that David's day started with love and affection from his family," said Cathy. "We remind our family and friends, whenever we can, to tell their loved ones how they feel about them every day, because you never know when it will be your last time."

David treasured the time he spent with his family. Keith and Kelly remember fondly their dad's involvement and interest in their lives. He enjoyed playing basketball with his boys, along with a nice soak in the hot tub. Cathy, a stay-at-home mom, cherished her role in their lives.

In 1998, after spending most of his career at PA Kennedy in Washington (Ind.), David went to work for the Washington School Corporation as a custodian at Lena Dunn Elementary School. Looking after the kids at Lena Dunn was important to David. "He really enjoyed working in an environment that allowed him to interact with children," said Cathy. "They were more than students to him-they were ‘his kids' and David came home every night with stories about his day with them."

In honor of their love for David, Cathy, Keith and Kelly established the David K. Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund with the Daviess County Community Foundation shortly after his death. The scholarship is available to graduating seniors who attended Lena Dunn. Not only is the scholarship a tribute to David's life, it is a permanent legacy in his name to the school and the kids he so loved. Three students have received the scholarship since it was established: Tiffany Summers, Joshua Church, and Madelyn Peek."

David would be so proud knowing he was helping a boy or girl through the scholarship fund. Not only was he our son, he was a kind and generous man," said his parents, Melvin and Helen Lynch. "He left two wonderful sons, Keith and Kelly, who are also kind and generous, like their father. He was a son to be proud of."
